  • Gachagua said they focused on the development of priority programmes at their areas.
  • "We agreed on continuous engagements with the legislators, and indeed leaders from all parts of the country irrespective of political or any other affiliation," he added.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday held a meeting with a some of the dissenting ODM leaders at his office in Harambee Annex.

Gachagua said they focused on the development of priority programmes in their areas.

"We agreed on continuous engagements with the legislators and indeed leaders from all parts of the country irrespective of political or any other affiliation," he said.

The MPs included Phelix Oduor aka Jalang'o (Lang’ata), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) Paul Abuor (Rongo), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo) and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda.

The leaders were joined by ICT CS Eliud Owalo and the Interior PS Raymond Omollo.

The DP reiterated that President William Ruto's led-administration was more inclined to include every Kenyan in its development agenda.

"Elections are over and Kenyans have moved on," he said.

The meeting was part of last week’s State House meeting that triggered a political storm in the Orange party.

The second meeting with Gachagua is seen as an open defiance to the opposition, putting to test Azimio leader Raila Odinga's grip of the region which for years has been loyal to him.

For the first time, the ODM boss is staring at open dissent and the timing could not have been worse given the opposition would want their troops intact in its sustained anti-government rallies and claims that Raila's victory was stolen in the August 9 polls.
