Jubilee MPs who want out of Azimio have been dealt a blow following directions given by the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu.

The MPs who have since declared support for President William Ruto had written to Nderitu about their resolution to exit the coalition and change of leadership within the party ranks.

The registrar, however, on Tuesday declined their request, asking them to follow the process spelt out in the Azimio coalition agreement for leaving.

"With respect to exiting from the coalition political party, kindly observe the provisions of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition agreement and the role of respective party organs," Nderitu said in a letter seen by the Star.

According to the Azimio agreement, any party that intends to leave must give the Coalition Council – the second-highest decision-making organ, a 90-day notice of the move.

This means that the council, which is chaired by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta-the Jubilee Party leader-will have a say in any move by a partner party to exit Azimio.

The MPs quest to change party leadership also bore no fruit, as the registrar asked them to follow the set out party dispute resolution mechanism.

"It is expected that the party shall update the office on the progress of the internal dispute resolution and disciplinary processes. You are further required to adhere to the provision of the party constitution as you undertake the said processes," Nderitu added.

The pro-Ruto Jubilee MPs on February 10, wrote to Nderitu, through deputy SG Joshua Kutuny announcing the suspension of secretary general Jeremiah Kioni, vice chair David Murathe and Treasurer Kagwe Gichohi.

The three were replaced by EALA MP Kanini Kega (SG), Aden Keynan and Rachel Nyamai respectively.

The resolution followed a National Executive Committee meeting,  cum Parliamentary Group meeting that was held at the Sarova Woodlands Hotel.

Kioni had, however, rubbished the resolutions.
