Suspect attacks police with jembe in Kisii

Police had gone to arrest Rakamba who was on the run after committing a crime two weeks ago.

A senior sergeant police officer is fighting for his life at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital after a suspect he had gone to arrest assaulted him with a jembe in Gesima, Borabu in Nyamira.

Keroka deputy police boss Hassan Bashir said the officer with his colleagues had gone to arrest Anthony Rakamba, 27, who was on the run after committing a crime two weeks ago.

Bashir said the police officers upon arrival at Rakamba’s home, they asked him to open the door as they identified themselves as police officers.

The suspect opened the door while holding a Jembe and hit the police officer on the head inflicting a deep cut.

The police officers who went to arrest him were working on intelligence they had received that Rakamba had resurfaced after going on the run soon after committing the heinous crime.

"The other police officers responded immediately in defence and shot the suspect three times," the police boss said.

The injured officer was rushed to Gucha hospital and later referred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was admitted.
