Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah speaks during a church service at Wanjohi Primary School in Kipipiri, Nyandarua on December 11.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa has now claimed that the alleged attempted arrest of former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i was to whip up the emotions of the Kisii community.

Speaking on Thursday, Ichung'wa said that the drama was well planned ahead of Azimio la Umoja coalition planned rally in Kisii on Monday.

“I GERRIT now! So all this drama was to whip up emotions and mobilize for a rally in Kisii knowing the dwindling support from the political class and the public that’s befallen them?” he posed.

Ichung'wa further questioned the presence of the claimed 200 battery of lawyers who were present at Matiang’i home.

“Had the 200 lawyers gathered somewhere anticipating the drama? How comes the media houses there with cameras couldn’t capture even the 200 lawyers if the police were ghosts ?” he further posed.

There were claims that elite police officers arrived and surrounded his Karen home to arrest him for unspecified reasons.

However, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki dismissed claims of police involvement in the alleged raid.

He said that he had received media reports and inquiries on Thursday about an alleged invasion of the home of his predecessor by some unidentified persons last night.

Matiang’i’s lawyers and some politicians who spoke from the scene alleged that the said persons were police officers sent to arrest the former CS.

“This allegation is utterly false. No police officer(s) or any security agent from any government institution or department was dispatched to the home of Dr Matiang’i to arrest, harass or otherwise interfere with his Constitutional rights in any manner whatsoever,” Kindiki said.

He said none of the enforcement agencies was at the former CS’s house.

“I have confirmed with the command of the National Police Service, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Kenya Revenue Authority and all law enforcement agencies that none of them has any orders to look for the former minister,” he said.

Inspector General of police Japhet Koome denied claims his officers went to Matiangí’s house.

He said he had checked and found no such operation was sanctioned if any.

Also, Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission chief executive officer Twalib Mbarak denied his officers were involved in the said attempted raid.
