Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has told former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang' that he has no reason to fear for his life if he has not committed any offence.
Addressing the media at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, Cherargei said Matiang'i should not have any fears if he was not involved in the abuse of office or engaged in any scandal.
“I just want to remind Matiang'i power is transient. Some of us have been arrested at night and driven in Subarus from Nandi to Nairobi.
The Nandi senator castigated Azimio leader Raila Odinga for saying Matiang'i is a senior citizen who deserves respect.
“Even some of us are senior citizens and have been arrested for no reason while serving as legislators.”
He advised Matiangí to hire the best lawyers in the country if he has engaged in unlawful activities.
“If you have not committed any offence, have no worries. If you have done something unlawful, you should get the numbers of the best lawyers in town,” he added.
Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has since said police officers were not sent to raid Matiang'i’s home Wednesday night as claimed by his lawyers.
The clarification came hours after reports emerged that security personnel had surrounded Matiangi’s home with an intention of arresting him.
Lawyer Danstan Omari who camped at the home in Karen said his client’s life is at risk and accused police of harassment.
Cherargei said Matiangí was seeking sympathy from Kenyans by dramatizing events at his home.
“There are many people in this country who need sympathy. People who are hungry need some sympathy,” he added.
He added that Raila should let the police handle the matter and “concentrate with Azimio rallies".
“If he continues to behave like this, I am going to write to the President to ask him to withdraw the security of the former Prime Minister and other benefits.”
He added that it was ironic for Raila to say he does not recognise the government and still expect the same administration to pay for his vehicles, security and staff.
