With the Kenya Kwanza government pushing for its digitisation agenda, President William Ruto will on Tuesday chair the first paperless Cabinet meeting.

The Cabinet has never gone digital with its meeting even during the Covid- 19 pandemic.

The Cabinet used to meet at State House but observe the Covid-19 preventative protocol including wearing of masks and social distancing.

With the new regime, President Ruto had announced early this year that Cabinet meetings will henceforth go digital and would be run on the digital space.

"From the next Cabinet meeting our Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau has assured us our meetings are going to be paperless. We are going to run cabinet based on the digital space," Ruto said.

Atleast 300 government services have already been digitised.

"It will be expected of government in every department that we leverage on technology to make government much more efficient," he said.

"Sending a letter takes longer than sending an email. The email arrives instantly. The letter tells us we have to get a messenger, a motorbike and a receptionist and all manner of bureaucracy."

In November 2022, the government announced plans to migrate all its services to the digital platform in the next six to 12 months.

Atleast 300 government services have already been digitised.

Ruto said the government will digitise 5,000 government services by June.

“I expect that the 5,000 un-digitised services should be digitised in the next six months for Kenyans to access land records and other government services without unnecessary bureaucracy,” he said.
