Mystery surrounds the circumstances under which the body of a seven-year-old was found in a septic tank days after he went missing from their home in Nairobi’s Chokaa area.

The boy had gone missing on January 19 before his body was discovered in the septic tank three days later.

The family told police that the deceased was last seen talking to an unknown person before he went missing.

The boy’s mother Maureen Auma was not at home but she said she received a call from her house girl saying the son was not home after he went out to play prompting a search.

It was three days later that they received a report that a body of a young boy had been discovered in a septic tank adjacent to their house.

They later positively identified his body.

An autopsy conducted on it said the cause of death was drowning.

The boy was to celebrate his birthday on Friday before joining Grade Three this week.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said police are investigating the incident.

He said they want to establish how the boy died and who could be behind it.

He said they cannot tell if the boy drowned in the tank or was killed or pushed therein.

“Investigations are ongoing and we hope to get more on this tragedy,” he said.
