The tribunal probing the conduct of four former IEBC commissioners will resume its hearings on Monday.

Former IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati is expected to appear before the tribunal.

The tribunal was formed by President William Ruto to probe four ex-IEBC commissioners.

Led by Justice Aggrey Muchelule, the tribunal will probe suspended commissioner Irene Masit alongside former vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and ex-commissioners Justus Nyang’aya and Francis Wanderi over their conduct after they disputed the presidential election results declared by Chebukati in August 2022.

Three commissioners Cherera, Wanderi and Nyang'aya resigned in December after Parliament approved a petition to have the President form a tribunal to probe their conduct.

However, the tribunal began its hearing on December 21 despite the resignation of three.

Masit who was expected before the tribunal, sent her lawyer Donald Kipkorir to appear before Justice Aggrey Muchelule-lead team.

Kipkorir put Dennis Nthumbi to task to explain the specific contraventions of the law committed by the commissioner.

He argued that the shape and stature of the petition had evolved since it was filed in parliament.

Nthumbi who is the first petitioner told the tribunal that Masit’s involvement as part of four dissenting commissioners of the IEBC at a press conference, disowning presidential election results was reason enough to have her removed.

Besides Chebukati, former IEBC  commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu are also lined up to testify against Masit.

The tribunal is also expected to summon the management of two city facilities, the Serena Hotel and Yaya Towers, which are said to have hosted the four on days around the election.
