National Assembly education committee chair Julius Melly now wants the examinations council to look into concerns raised by teachers.

Speaking during the release of the KCSE exams, Melly said the issues raised by teachers marking CRE paper 1 should be investigated.

“We need to look at their welfare so that they can feel part and parcel of this country,” Melly said.

There was a setback during the marking of the exams as some teachers held a strike.

The marking of KCSE exams at St. Francis Girls High School, Mang'u, had been disrupted after teachers started to protest over delayed pay and poor working conditions.

The teachers were marking CRE exam papers when the situation escalated.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu and basic education PS Belio Kipsang arrived at the school to calm the situation and marking resumed.

TSC CEO Nancy Macharia had also arrived at the marking centre but was escorted out of the school by angry teachers.

They had earlier demanded that the current Chief Examiner be removed, a demand that was fulfilled after Macharia appointed a replacement in an acting capacity as talks continued.
