The National Police Service has beefed up security in Baringo County ahead of next week's school reopening.

The Service said National Police Reservists have been deployed to the area to support the Rift Valley multi-agency security team.

The multi-agency security team led by the Regional Police Commander, Tom Odero, on Wednesday, carried out the "Operation Fungua Shule" exercise in Chemorongion, Kapindasum, Mukutani and Arabal areas.

Odero also visited Arabal GSU Camp and lauded the officers for their commitment and dedication as evidenced by the success of the operation.

"It has taken the concerted efforts from the multi-agency security team and cooperation from the local community to maintain the current conducive environment for the resumption of learning and enhanced freedom of movement for the locals," NPS said.

NPS lauded members of the public for the support extended to the multi-agency security team, as it strives to restore peace and normalcy in the area.

Several schools in the county had closed down due to insecurity associated with banditry attacks.

In November 2022, President William Ruto assured the residents of Kerio Valley that his government will take decisive measures to ensure security and peace in the region.

"We will ensure this region is peaceful, we want our children to go to school and the people to focus on meaningful economic activities," he said.
