Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has termed as laughable fresh claims that Azimio leader Raila Odinga defeated President William Ruto in the August 9 election.

Mudavadi said the new claims should have been presented to the Supreme Court when the petition challenging Ruto’s victory was filed.

“It is hot air. Where was the whistleblower when matters were before the Supreme Court?” the Prime Cabinet Secretary asked.

A whistleblower has claimed that Raila garnered 8.17 million votes, or 57.53 per cent of votes cast, against Ruto’s 5.91 million votes, or 41.66 per cent of votes cast.

The allegations reignited assertions by the Opposition that the electoral agency rigged the presidential elections in favour of Ruto.

Jubilee Party, an affiliate of Azimio, on Wednesday said the Opposition is in agreement with the whistleblower.

"We have no reason to doubt the information, which confirmed our fears," Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni said.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission declared Ruto the winner having garnered 7,176,141 votes, representing 50.49 per cent of valid votes cast, beating Raila who had 6,942,930 votes (48.85 per cent).

Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Mudavadi said people coming up with the new claims are “simply testing the imagination of Kenyans.”

“The results were in the public portal and they were announced in accordance with the law,” he said.

The Prime Cabinet Secretary said international observers and civil society concurred that the elections were open and transparent.

“The Supreme Court unanimously affirmed and validated the results. Where is this whistleblower coming from with the new figures?” he posed.

Mudavadi said he is surprised that Kioni has fully backed the “dossier” of the whistleblower.

“I am still trying to understand what happened to Kioni. He is not the Kioni I know, at least from the statements he is making,” he said.

Kioni said Raila will issue a comprehensive statement when he jets back into the country from South Africa.

He said the whistleblower should be believed because he shared his identity and contacts.

"Since last year we maintained that the elections did not reflect the will of Kenyans. We still maintain that there was manipulation and rigging," he said.

The study has been done by a group known as Vanguard Africa, an NGO that partners with pro-democracy leaders across Africa.

"You can reach him @smith-jeffreyt. That document is available. As I said a comprehensive statement will be issued by our party leader and I ask that you take time to go through the findings before then," Kioni said.
