Retired senior chief in Eldoret town William Sang has been charged with defiling a school girl on boxing day last December.

The 68-year-old chief appeared before senior resident magistrate Christine Menya and denied two counts of defilement.

He allegedly committed the offence in the Kaptagat area of Kerio Valley within Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Sang who is also a retired GSU officer was released on a bond of Sh200,000 with a similar surety.

Menya ordered that the case be mentioned on February 6th for a pre-trial conference.

At the same time, the magistrate expressed surprise following an increase in cases in which many youths had been charged with threatening to kill their mothers in the region.

She asked the prosecution to find out why there had been an increase in such cases.

She made the comments after more than 10 youths were separately charged with offences of threatening to kill their mothers
