IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati has wished his successor luck even as he exits the office after serving his constitutional term of six years at the helm of the electoral body.

Speaking on Monday, Chebukati said that together with commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye, they have set a pace for their successors.

"We believe the pace has been set and I take this opportune moment to wish our successors all the best as they pick the baton from us to take the elections of this country to the next level,” he said

Chebukati further noted that the launch of the report marked the end of his duty as IEBC chairperson.

“I exit contented that we gave it our best to this commission. We chartered and weathered storms that threatened the existence of the commission,” he stated.

During his tenure, the IEBC boss said the Commission endured relentless fatigue in preparation for the election.

"We mastered higher courage to overcome the perils of democracy and we delivered the sacred will of the people of Kenya,” Chebukati said.

He also acknowledged support from development partners that includes the UNDP-led Deepening Democracy Programme, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Germany, the Republic of Italy and the Republic of Ireland.

After six years of service, Chebukati and commissioners Boya Molu and Abdi Guliye are set to exit on January 17.

Former retired President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed the trio in January 2017 alongside four others who resigned after the 2017 General Elections.

In October 2022, President William Ruto declared vacancies at the Commission as Chebukati and two commissioners prepared to exit.
