Kericho County Assembly Speaker Patrick Mutai has been summoned to appear before the UDA Disciplinary Committee following chaos that rocked the House on Friday.

In a letter dated January 13, committee chair Charles Njenga directed Mutai to appear before the panel on January 20.

"Accordingly, and pursuant to the provisions of Article 29(iv)(v)(vi) and (vii) of the Constitution of UDA, you are hereby summoned to appear before the Disciplinary Committee on the 20th of January 2023 at 9am at the Hustler Plaza,4th Floor, Board Room for the hearing of the complaint against you," Njenga said.

On Friday, Kericho MCAs got into wrangles over House leadership, leading to fistfights and throwing of a chair.

Njenga said the drama witnessed at the House has compromised the party's reputation.

He faulted Mutai for holding the special meeting and failing to give the party members directions concerning the leadership, leading to the chaos.

"On the 13th of January 2023, during the County Assembly meeting convened to discuss various issues including the house leadership position, you failed to guide the house in giving effect to the party's clear directions in the matter and as a result, there arose confusion, confrontation, violence and commotion," it said.

On January 9, UDA secretary general Veronica Maina wrote to Mutai endorsing the leadership of Kamasian MCA Philip Rono as Majority leader and Kapsuser member Peter Kemoi as Majority Whip.

Maina's letter was marked as received at the assembly on Wednesday.

If the complaint against Mutai is established, Njenga said, he will be disciplined in accordance the party Constitution.

"You may represent yourself in person or appear with an advocate of the High Court of Kenya," Njenga directed.
