Dagoretti  North MP Beatrice Elachi has said that government has to reconsider school fees subsidy.

She said the government should come up with a plan if subsidies will not be there.

Elachi spoke on Wednesday during an interview with K24 TV.

"The national government has to rethink in terms of the subsidies that were there for parents. The CS has to come out and give us a plan," she said.

The legislator further said constituencies should ensure that every child who is supposed to be in school gets to school by all means.

"In my constituency, I want to see my children go to school and they will have to go to school because I am the leader. I have to get friends and business people to pick every child that has to go to school," she said.

This is after President William Ruto opted to do away with most subsidy programmes.

Former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime had subsidised the fees as a cautionary measure for parents from the impacts of Covid-19, which had led to reduced incomes for many families.

In the 2021-2022 school calendar, parents had to contend with paying fees for four terms as the country raced to catch up with the curriculum.

MPs have come out to urge the government to reinstate school fees subsidies.
