Government payments going digital is aimed at increasing revenue collection and minimizing the cost of collection and enhancing service delivery.
The Digital Payments platform is integrated with all available electronic payment platforms in Kenya, including mobile money payment services.
A raft of government services have been bundled under the ecitizen, generating hundreds of thousands of transactions monthly.
The portal generates an invoice for the various services and the user proceeds to pay the amount using mobile money platforms through the government’s pay bill number.
Once payment is made, the system reflects the transaction and generates a receipt that the user can print.
Services provided under the portal include motor vehicle ownership, land searches, birth, and death registrations.
Also, CS Ndung’u announced that more transactions are being migrated to the online payment portal, as the government unveils a new universal pay bill number, 222222.

The CS notes that the official identifier of citizens shall be one’s National Identity Card number; foreigners shall use an Alien Identity Card number.
Ndung’u further said the digital payments platform is integrated with all available electronic payments platforms in Kenya, including mobile money telephone payment services.
