Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has said four subjects recorded an improvement in the 2022 KCPE exam compared to 2021.

The CS said English Language, Kiswahili Lugha, Kiswahili Insha and Kenyan Sign Language improved in this year's KCPE exam.

"We have been impressed that four papers recorded an improvement in performance in the year 2022 when compared to 2021," he said.

Machogu spoke on Wednesday during the release of the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education results.

However, Machogu said English Composition, Kenyan Sign Language Composition, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Religious Education recorded a drop in  performance in 2022 compared with 2021.

Some 1,233,852 candidates sat the 2022 KCPE in 28,408 centres across the country.

Machogu said the candidates will be allowed to start their secondary school journey as they have all qualified to be admitted to Form 1.

The CS said the class of 2022 put out a spirited academic campaign that defied the triple challenge of a general election, Covid-19 and shortened school calendars.

Of the KCPE candidates 620,965 (50.32 per cent) were boys while 612,887 (49.67 per cent) were girls.

The CS said it is an indication that the country has achieved gender parity at primary school level.
