CNN hero of the year Nelly Cheboi and her mother Christina Chebii have met President William Ruto in the United States.
President Ruto had attended a high-level summit.
Cheboi posted a picture of her delighted mother with President Ruto who was all smiles.
She captioned the photo, "This has to be the highlight of her visit to America. SOG Sogome with the president of Kenya".
Cheboi was on Sunday honoured for her work in creating computer labs for Kenyan schoolchildren through her nonprofit, TechLit Africa.
Her mother had accompanied her during the trip to New York.
Through her organisation, Cheboi uses recycled computers to create technology labs in schools in rural Kenya.
So far 4,000 kids have benefited through her initiative.
“I know the pain of poverty and that’s why I feel so passionate about it,” Cheboi, a software engineer who splits her time between the US and Kenya said.
She dedicated her award to all African mothers.
Cheboi touched many hearts globally when she invited her mother to the podium the moment she was announced the winner of the coveted award during the 16th annual CNN Heroes.
"My dear mum only made it to sixth Grade, she can barely read and write. She has four daughters, she worked really hard to educate us," Nelly said.
She said despite the hard times she faced over a period of four decades, she never gave up on the dream of educating Nelly and her siblings.
