Bungoma County Senatorial contestant in the just concluded by-election Mwambu Mabonga of United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has conceded defeat.
Mabonga has at the same time congratulated the Senator-elect David Wafula Wakoli of Ford Kenya.
He called on the Senator to elect Wafula Wakoli to serve diligently.
In his address to the media at the Bungoma members club on Friday, Mwambu said that he has accepted the results and he is keen to contest for other political positions in future.
“This is not the end of my political journey. I will still vie for other positions in the coming general elections, I won’t give up,” Mwambu said.
Mwambu decried low voter turnout saying that it was one of the reasons for his failure.
However, Mwambu also noted that there was chaos in the Tongaren constituency where his agents were chased away from the polling stations.
“My agents were harassed in some polling stations and that is the game of politics,” Mwambu added.
Mwambu lauded other contestants for maintaining peace before, during and even after the IEBC declared Wafula Wakoli the winner of the by-election.
Mwambu attacked the National assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula for actively involving in politics terming it as impunity of the highest order.
“Wetang’ula should remain neutral and shun taking part in active politics, it was very wrong for Wetang’ula to put on a Ford Kenya uniform and campaign for my competitor Wafula Wakoli,” he noted.
Mwambu trashed Wetang’ula’s claims that Ford Kenya is a strong party in the western region.
He lauded President William Ruto for believing in him and awarding him a UDA certificate to vie for the Senatorial seat.
