Malombe signs Sh1bn pact with USAID

The pact will eliminate duplication of projects in Kitui county

Kitui Governor Julius Malombe on Tuesday signed a joint work plan with USAID for collaboration that will weed out duplication of development projects.

Malombe signed the deal on behalf of his administration while USAID's James Flock, who is the Chief of Party, Resilience Learning Activity, represented his organisation.

The joint 2022-23 work plan that will involve the county and the USAID’s implementing partners has a budget in excess of Sh1.1 billion.

It was inked at Malombe’s office in Kitui town. The county government will contribute Sh742, 436,564 while USAID will give Sh368, 156, 880, according to documents provided to the media.

Among the USAID implementing partners are Resilience Learning Activity, 4Better Health Program, USAID Advancing Nutrition, World Food Program (WFP), World Vision and Afya Ugavi.

The signed document  indicates that  through the  partnership cross-sectoral platform will be provided to identify opportunities for leveraging on what other partners are doing to eliminate duplication.

“To facilitate the co-implementing and joint monitoring of activities, the county and the USAID will continue conducting regular monthly and quarterly progress review meetings,” the document says

The activities in the project include agriculture, water and livestock, trade, industry, MSMEs, innovation and cooperatives, education and training and skills development.

Other areas of focus are finance, revenue management and economic planning, governance, culture, gender, youth, sports, ICT and social services.
