National assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi have intensified campaigns in Bungoma to drum up support for Lion’s party candidate David Wafula Wakoli.

During his rallies on Saturday, Wetang’ula received Webuye West politician Kelly Walubengo to the Ford Kenya party.

Walubengo vied for the Webuye West parliamentary seat on UDP but he was defeated by the incumbent lawmaker Dan Wanyama of the United Democratic Party.

Speaking in Webuye, Wetang'ula said that during the August polls, Kenya was divided because of different political affiliations, adding that it's time for leaders to unite and work for the Kenyans.

He also asked the opposition leaders to play their role without fear and favor to ensure that they keep the government in check.

"It is the work of the opposition to ensure that what we promised during the August campaigns is fulfilled but not to criticize what we do," he said.

However, Wetang'ula asked Bungoma voters to rally behind Ford Kenya's candidate Wafula Wakoli in the Senatorial by-election, adding that Wakoli has served in his office as the manager and he knows the roles of the senator.

He lauded ANC boss Musalia Mudavadi for joining him to rally behind Wafula’s candidature.

"The Ford Kenya brigade will pitch camp here in Bungoma to campaign for our own Wafula Wakoli to ensure that he emerges the winner," he said.

Wetang'ula also asked Interior CS Prof. Kithure Kindiki to beef up security countrywide during this festive season to ensure thugs don't attack locals while at their events.

"This is the time that Kenyans need maximum security as they converge at different places for celebrations. I humbly appeal to Interior CS to beef up security countrywide," Wetang'ula added.

In addition, Wetang'ula urged MPs and senators to use the short-term season to preach peace in their regions.

"Both the national and Senate have proceeded for recess so the legislators can use this time to preach peace and unite our people," speaker Wetang'ula said.

Speaking in Bungoma town, ANC boss Musalia Mudavadi said that his unity and friendship with Wetang’ula will help the region get significant developments as promised during campaigns.

“Let’s walk this journey together as Luhyas, if we start dividing ourselves, we are the ones who will cry after five years,” she said.

Mudavadi went ahead and stated that in the Kenya Kwanza agreement, UDA was not expected to field a candidate in the Bungoma Senatorial by-election. He called on Bungoma voters to elect Wafula Wakoli as their senator.

The by-election will be held on December 8.
