Two remnants of the crushed ‘Mbogi la Izram Territory’ criminal gang in Kakamega county have been arrested.

They were arrested as detectives intensify an ongoing crackdown on criminal gangs in Kakamega and the larger Western Kenya.

The two suspects aged 35 and 21, were arrested on Saturday evening within Kakamega town close to Julika Petrol Station, as they prepared to commit a felony.

According to a report by DCI, the duo were armed with crude weapons including metal cutters and sharp metal rods.

They led detectives to their house at Kakoi corner where assorted electronic and household goods suspected to have been stolen were recovered.

"They are currently being held at Kakamega Police station pending arraignment on Monday morning," the police said.

A comprehensive security crackdown is currently ongoing in Western Kenya and parts of Nyanza to wipe out criminal gangs that have threatened the public safety and security of residents.

On Tuesday detectives arrested three suspected gangsters and recovered a pistol suspected to have been stolen from a police officer.

The DCI said the Ceska pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition was recovered from the trio at their hideout in a house within Mukumu, Khayega location.

"This followed an intensive crackdown by the DCI Western command on criminals and criminal gangs in the area," the DCI said in a statement.

Household goods suspected to have been stolen in various robbery incidents within Kakamega county were also recovered during the sting operation.
