Kisii Governor Simba Arati has urged boda boda operators to embrace a saving culture to help leverage their capacity to acquire loans.

Arati said through deliberate investments in saving schemes, operators will manage to ride high in life.

"Politics is behind us, we must find ways to generate income and make you grow wealth, he said.

"This can be done if we begin to save the little  we get."

Arati spoke on Friday at Gusii Stadium during the launch of the Kisii Boda Transport Cooperative Society Limited.

He gave a personal donation of Sh2 million and an additional Sh3 million from President William Ruto.

Arati said he was now ready to ride along with the operators to help them grow their income streams.

"I had pledged to make this Sacco a reality. This is a testament that I'll fulfil all other commitments I made during the campaigns," he said.

Arati urged more riders to join the new Sacco and make prompt payments to make it realise its vision.

"We must empower our young men in bodaboda by putting money in their pockets. We need to end poverty," the governor said.

He also asked the Sacco leaders to tame their appetite for stealing from members.

"Integrity is key, nobody will embezzle the Sacco funds under my watch," he said.

The Sacco, among other things, will help instil discipline and enhance security, peace and safety awareness among the operators.

To increase their savings, every member will be required to deposit Sh2,000 monthly after the initial registration of Sh500.

Kisii Central deputy county commissioner Wilberforce Kilonzo applauded the operators for maintaining peace during the August polls.

He asked them to embrace discipline and report any paedophile among them.
