Three cops interdicted over stolen guns in Homa Bay

Police are pursuing the burglars to recover stolen rifles and ammunition

Three police officers have been interdicted over a burglary incident at Kipasi police post in Homa Bay where five guns and several rounds of ammunition were stolen.

The National Police Service said in a statement on Friday that preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the officers who have since been charged in court.  

"The trio have have been interdicted pending hearing and determination of the case. A multi-agency team led by the Nyanza Regional Police Commander is on the ground to arrest the burglars and recover the stolen rifles and ammunition," NPS said.

The Service appealed to members of the public to provide any information to the authorities which may lead to the arrest of the suspects.  

"However, members of the public are cautioned to treat the suspects as armed and dangerous," NPS said.

Earlier, police said three suspects had been arrested and were being interrogated. 

Homa Bay county commissioner Moses Lilan said they have intensified the search with more officers across Nyanza region joining the search party.

Acts of lawlessness across the country have been on an upward trajectory with majority of the incidents involving petty crime that occasionally end in stabbing cases.

Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has, however, put criminals across the country on notice saying he will wipe them out.

IG Japeth Koome also warned that he will not stand by and watch as criminals terorise Kenyans as doing so will me he has slept on the job.
