Businessman Suleiman Shahbal has pledged to focus on breaking trade restrictions as he heads to EALA.
Speaking on Thursday, he said he looks forward to not only represent Kenya as his country but the East African Community and contributing towards the economic transformation of the region.
"As I head to the assembly, I promise to push my colleagues to focus on our commonalities as a community and work towards breaking trade restrictions amongst us," Shahbal said.
Azimio La Umoja will be represented by Shahbal, Winnie Odinga, former Kieni MP Kanini Kega and Kennedy Musyoka in the East African Legislative Assembly.
Shahbal thanked fellow legislators from the National Assembly and Senate for electing him.
He also extended his humble and hearty appreciation to the Coast parliamentary group for walking with him throughout his campaign to election day.
"It is through the support of all these leaders , my team and fellow party leader Raila Odinga that we emerged victorious today," Shahbal said.
The legislator had disappointed his supporters pre-August polls when he dropped off the governor's race in favour of Abdulswamad Nassir.
“I have all this time stood for change. I believe that I could have complemented what governor Hassan Joho did during his two-term reign,” he said in August.
Shahbal even rejected calls to run for Mombasa governor as an independent candidate and declared support for ODM’s Nassir.
He made the declaration amid reports that more than 60,000 voters had signed a petition seeking to have him vie as an independent candidate.
