•In a mock election held at State House on Wednesday during the Party's Parliamentary Group meeting, five nominees were voted as Coalition's favourites.
Members of Parliament on Thursday voted out one nominee who was elected among the five Kenya Kwanza favourite candidate to the East African Legislative Assembly.
In a mock election held at State House on Wednesday during the Party's Parliamentary Group meeting, five nominees were voted as Coalition's favourites.
They were former nominated MP David Sankok, former URP Secretary General Fredrick Muteti, Former Nandi Woman Rep Zipporah Kering, Former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and former nominated senator Falhada Iman Dekow.
But in the actual voting on Thursday, MPs voted out Muteti and replaced him with youth leader Mwangi Maina.
Muteti emerged among the top five favourites but could not make it to EALA because of gender balance hence, Falhada was considered.
In the tally Omar got 251 votes, Kering had 222, Sangkok 217 and Maina 208.
Muteti bagged 189 votes closed followed by Falhada with 181.
Maina's entry came as a defiance to the decision made at the State House.
The Star established that Rift Valley MPs ganged up on the Wednesday's secret ballot to deny their Mt Kenya counterparts EALA slots.
During the State House vote, Maina was defeated alongside the other nominee from the region, former Igembe Central MP Kubai Iringo.
It was revealed that a section of MPs from Rift Valley schemed on Tuesday night and lobbied their counterparts from Western Kenya, Ukambani and Coast to deny Mt Kenya any slot.
"There is a strong wind of revolt unless the region gets at least a slot in UDA, as we speak we are caucusing to ensure we deliver that during the plenary vote,'' a Mt Kenya MP said then.
