Azimio leader Raila Odinga's daughter Winnie Odinga has said it is time for Kenya to lead in the East Africa Legislative Assembly.

In a statement on Friday, Winnie said that Kenya should work together and not against each other.

"I have travelled the region, I have studied it and I know it well. We lose when we compete against each other instead of working together," she said.

"As the biggest economy in the region, it’s time for Kenya to roar and lead in bringing the EAC together. I believe I know how."

ODM nominated Winnie and five others for the EALA post.

They include business man Suleiman Shahbal, Mohamed Diriye, Timothy Bosire, Beatrice Askul, and Justus Kizito.

The six represent Mombasa, Wajir, Nairobi, Nyamira, Turkana and Kakamega counties.

Kenya has nine seats up for grabs at the East African Legislative Assembly.

Five of the nine will go the Kenya Kwanza coalition while four will go to Azimio.

From the four ODM is expected to have two seats while other affiliate parties; Jubilee and Wiper will each get a seat.

The committee will file a report and table it in the two Houses for debate before a vote is taken.

The names include former secretary general of Ruto's defunct United Republic Party Fred Muteti and ex-Mombasa senator Hassan Omar.

Each party is expected to nominate three people for every slot before Parliament debates and votes in a secret ballot.
