Jubilee nominates Kega, Kioni for EALA job

The Jubilee party has nominated three individuals who will battle it out for their only East African Legislative Assembly slot.

They include, former MPs Kanini Kega (Kieni), Jeremiah Kioni (Ndaragwa) and Ruth Mwaniki (Kigumo).

Their nomination was communicated to the National Assembly minority leader by Kioni, who is the Jubilee secretary general.

In the EALA seats, Jubilee has one slot, from the four allocated to the Azimio la Umoja coalition in which they belong.

The total number of slots for Kenya in the legislative assembly are nine, whereby the ruling United Democratic Alliance will have five slots.

On Wednesday, the Orange Democratic Movement party narrowed down its list of EALA nominees to six.

The six included Business man Suleiman Shahbal, Mohamed Diriye, Winnie Odinga, Timothy Bosire, Beatrice Askul, and Justus Kizito.

President William Ruto's UDA party also sent a shortlist of 15 names to Parliament for the five EALA slots.

The names include the former Secretary General of Ruto's defunct United Republic Party (URP) Fred Muteti and ex-Mombasa senator Hassan Omar.

Others on the list include former nominated MP David Sankok, former Nandi Woman Representative Zipporah Kering and Anne Too.

Rebecca Lowoiya, Godfrey Maina, Okengo Nyambane, Falhadha Iman, Abdikadir Aden, Jonas Kuko, Kubai Iringo, Lilian Cheptoo, Yasser Bajaber, Salim Mohammed are also on the list.

Each party is expected to nominate three people for every slot before parliament debates and votes in a secret ballot.
