The government has banned schools from engaging in any activities within their premises in the third term.

Outgoing Early learning and basic education PS Julius Jwan directed schools to be a no-go-zone as exams are expected to start in three weeks.

"All activities like annual general meetings for parents and prayer days are not allowed in schools during exam period," Jwan said.

This is according to a circular sent out to county directors of education on November,8.

Schools are also on the watch over continued tuition during holidays and weekends.

Despite the Education Ministry banning tuition, schools still allow students to come for classes during holidays.

"Section 29()1) of the Basic Education Act,2013 prohibits holiday tuition," Jwan said.

The circular was signed by Jwan.

It was copied to CS Machogu, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia and KNEC Ceo David Njengere.

"Regulation 44 of the Basic Education Act,2013 prohibits any school to issue a fee structure other than the one issued by CS," Jwan said.

Jwan warned teachers from withholding certificates of students who fail to finish fees.

According to the KNEC Act 2012, all schools are prohibited from withholding certificates for any candidate.

"The ministry continues to receive complaints from aggrieved parents and guardians on extra levies, withholding certificates and conducting illegal tuition," he said.

The KCPE exam will start on November 28 -December 1, while the KCSE exam will start from December 1-December 23.

A timetable released by the Kenya National Examination Council indicates candidates will be assessed in five papers for three days until November 30.

Rehearsals will be conducted on November 25.
