Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has advised Kenyans to defend their Constitution before it is amended to harm them.

His remarks followed a proposal made by Fafi MP Salah Yakub to table a Constitutional amendment bill to replace the two-term Presidential limit with an age limit of 75 years.

In a statement on Tuesday, Bobi Wine urged Kenyans to stay alert, warning that the remarks were similar to what marked the beginning of President Yoweri Museveni's era.

President Museveni has served for 36 years since assuming office on January 29, 1986.

"Dear Kenyans, be vigilant. Save your country from Musevenism. This may come off as a lone MP making a ridiculous suggestion, but this is how it starts. Exactly how Museveni began schemes to remove term and age limits. Defend your Constitution before it's too weak to defend you!" he tweeted.

Yakub's remarks were however dismissed earlier by the UDA chairperson Johnson Muthama.

He clarified that the MP was not speaking on behalf of the party.

"Please take note of this, as the National Party, Chairman I wish to categorically state that Hon. Yakub's made a personal statement which has nothing to do with UDA Kenya," he added.

Muthama added that the party was still in support of the two-term; 10-year cap presidential limit.

"As a Party, we stand for open Democracy, and we remain supportive of the two-term presidential limit and no ongoing discussions to scrap it," Muthama said.

The country's two-term limit was effected before the 1992 general elections and is supported by the 2010 Constitutional Amendment.
