The feud between Meru leaders has caught the attention of Meru council of elders Njuri Ncheke from Meru and Tharaka Nithi counties.

During a full leadership meeting at the Njuri Ncheke Shrine in Ncheru, the elders issued a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Kawira Mwangaza, MCAs and MPs to resolve their differences.

Njuri Ncheke secretary general Josphat Murangiri said if they fail to solve the problems, they will take action in line with their customs and traditions.

"We have given Meru leaders 14 days to unite. After that, we will take the next action according to our Njuri customs," he said.

The elders who remained cagey with the steps they will take have insisted that they will give directions if negotiations between the leaders fail.

They said the wrangles between the Meru governor and MCAs has brought shame to the community.

"We are not going to tolerate this shame, nobody is greater than the welfare of the Meru people. We urge all of them led by the governor, to bring peace and understanding among the Meru people, and to solve things on all levels," he said.

"The Meru people queued to vote for them to lead but they are yet to reap the fruits of their leadership."

However, the leaders said they respect the government that was elected by the people of Meru county.

The governor has had a rough start of misunderstandings with the MCAs, which is delaying their service delivery to the people.

The MCAs have also rejected seven out of 10 nominees picked by Mwangaza to sit in her Cabinet as county executives.

Mwangaza restructured the cabinet to have six executives instead of 10 after MCAs rejected the seven she had nominated.
