The Kigoto Maize Milling Plant is a bold step by the county government's efforts to work on a long-term programme to ensure availability of affordable Unga.

On Friday, Raila described the maize plant as a signature project of “economic emancipation of our people.”

“We in Azimio advocate for our Republic's 3rd liberation, in light of this, I was delighted to open the Kigoto Maize Milling Plant in Homabay," Raila said when he opened the plant.

“We want economic emancipation of our people via increased food security, job creation, agribusiness, value addition, and devolution.”

Kigoto would produce the wholesome Mokwa brand, which will be sold in a variety of outlets throughout the nation, in order to address the current shortage.

Homabay governor Gladys Wanga hailed the plant as a game-changer for the region.

"I'm thrilled that on Friday, November 4th, we'll introduce our Mokwa, the finest, nutrient-rich flour produced in Homabay County. Once the necessary certifications are granted, it will be available in retailers near you,” Wanga said.
