Aquaculture barn wins Sh1m in Vijana na AgriBiz competition

Vijana na Agribiz National competition came to an end on Friday with Aquaculture barn limited scooping the top prize of Sh1 million after emerging winners.

The finals of the competition was held on Friday with 10 applicants competing for the top prize.

Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) launched a call for applications for the Vijana na AgriBiz Competition under the AgriBiz program.

The top 24 applicants were enrolled on boot camp and investor readiness sessions and will be incubated into the AgriBiz program for 1 year.

During the semi-finals that took place on November 2,  24 applicants pitched their agricultural innovations to potential investors.

It is from there that the 10 were picked to proceed to the finals.

The second and third position winners were awarded Ksh 750,000 and 500,000, respectively.

The Call for Applications launched in August 2022, received an incredible number of applications across all counties in Kenya.

The Vijana na AgriBiz Competition intends to advance resilient and sustainable climate adaptation strategies in Kenya by opening new economic prospects for creative, youth-owned businesses and getting a new generation of Kenyan youth and women to shift to a sustainable, climate-resilient future.

The competition aims to identify and support youth’s viable and high-growth innovative agribusiness ideas in Kenya.

The program also aims to help agripreneurs establish sustainable businesses through capacity building, mentorship, market linkages and access to financing.

The AgriBiz Programme, designed to promote the expansion of women and youth-owned agribusinesses, was launched on March 6, 2020, by the European Union, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark (Danida) and the African Development Bank (AfDB). 

The program seeks to support 2,400 women and youth-led agribusinesses and provide over 17,000 job opportunities along agricultural value chains in Kenya.
