Laikipia Senator John Kinyua has accused Kenya Wildlife Service of inaction in the wake of the human-wildlife conflict in the county.

He said KWS ignores complaints made by the residents about the alarming invasion of wildlife.

Presenting a motion at the National Assembly, he requested a statement on the unceasing human-wildlife conflict in Laikipia, from the Land, Environment and Natural Resources Committee.

He demanded reasons for the inactions of the KWS in dealing with the interminable destruction of food and crops by wildlife despite the numerous complaints forwarded by residents.

The family of Guthua Waweru Kamoche was never compensated for their loss.

Waweru was killed by an elephant at Silale near Nyahururu.

Kinyua said the statement should provide compensation measures in place to compensate families affected by that conflict and especially the measure the government is taking to compensate those who lost their loved ones.

He urged the government to set up a base at Silale and undertake a thorough assessment of lost produce and provide compensation to the affected farmers.

He recommended measures such as putting up electric fences by KWS to avert possible human-wildlife conflicts in the given area as residents felt aggrieved by the problem caused by the animals.
