An accountant with a Nairobi-based paints firm was shot and killed in a struggle with armed suspected thugs who wanted to grab a carrier bag that contained two disposable cups in Donholm.

Nicodemus Munyasya, 38, was Monday night shot and killed as he walked home after visiting a bank.

He was carrying a bag containing the cups.

The killers mistook the bag for money.

He had earlier left his office, visited a bank and was headed home with the teacups.

On reaching Savannah a gang that was riding on a motorcycle accosted him and demanded that he hands over the bag.

Police said they suspect the gang knew who Munyasya was and where he works.

He had earlier deposited a cheque at a local bank.

In the process, the victim resisted prompting a confrontation and shooting.

He was shot four times in the chest and leg.

Police arrived at the scene and recovered a spent cartridge and bullet head, a mobile phone and Sh100 from his pocket before moving the body to the mortuary.

In Ridgeways along Kiambu Road, a man was stabbed and killed in a robbery incident.

Keegan Githua, 24, who lived in Jacaranda Close was walking home on Sunday when a gang on motorcycles struck and demanded cash and mobile phones.

He was stabbed in the chest and robbed of a bag he was carrying.

Githua was pronounced dead at the AAR hospital.

Police say no arrest has been made so far and efforts to get the attackers are ongoing.

Police are also looking for a gang of eight that was riding on four motorcycles that attacked and robbed pedestrians along Uhuru Highway.

Each of the pillion passengers was armed with pistols when they attacked and robbed pedestrians near Parliament Buildings on Monday evening.

The gang escaped soon after accomplishing their mission.

Nairobi police boss James Mugera said a team of detectives is pursuing the gang.

The attacks come in the wake of increased deployment of undercover detectives in the city, as police take steps to destabilise criminal gangs.

There has been an increase in violent crimes in parts of the city as gangs attack for valuables and cash.

Police advise victims to cooperate with the attackers for their safety.
