The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has said he doesn't regret working with former DCI boss George Kinoti.

He said the turf war between his office and that of the DCI  was a learning curve for him.

"I don't regret working with the former DCI boss because now we have the decision to charge, guidelines that are appreciated by everyone, even the President who respects independent institutions," Haji said.

He spoke during an interview with a local media station on Sunday night.

He highlighted that the ODPP stood firm and strong as an independent institution despite threats.

"My house was broken into last months towards elections and I didn't say much because I was coerced and pushed to feel like I was a second citizen because people wanted to bend the constitution," Haji added.

Haji and Kinoti had been engaged in a supremacy battle that resulted in court delays and bungled cases.

In April 2020, the 'war' caused embarrassment in court after former KPA Managing Director Daniel Manduku was arrested and presented to court but the ODPP refused to charge him.

The incident led to a rare public interview where Kinoti decried that his officers had been frustrated and humiliated in the war against graft.

Early this year, Haji urged security agencies to stick to their legal mandates as enshrined in the constitution while discharging duties.

This came in the wake of rivalry pitting DPP Noordin Haji and DCI boss George Kinoti.

In an apparent reference to the ongoing rivalry, the ODPP  cited a judgement of a case to demonstrate that the law is clear on the role of the two agencies.

Kinoti moved to court with the DCI now demanding for probing and prosecution of Haji for alleged perjury and fraud during consultative meetings to formulate guidelines on terrorism.
