Police officer shoots himself dead in Garissa

The other bullet exited from the left side of his forehead, police said.

A police officer has shot himself dead in Garissa County.

Administration Police Constable Vincent Muteti attached to Hulugho police station is said to have ended his own life by shooting himself  inside his room on Wednesday night.

The incident was reported at the same station as suicide incident on OB NO: 05/26/10/2022 at about 2220 hours.

The report was made by Muteti's roommate.

“As he was sleeping, he was awaken by a sound of a gun. Upon waking up, he found the body of his roommate lying on the floor,” the report  read.

Police established that Muteti shot himself using three rounds of bullets from the chin and one round exited from the head.

The other bullet exited from the left side of his forehead, police said.

Police said Muteti used an AK rifle to end his life. However, there were was no suicide note recovered from the scene.

The incident happened two days after another police officer died by suicide in Yatta, Machakos County.

Administration police constable Alex Nganda Kieti, 36, died at his rural home in Mamba on Monday.

Issues of mental ill-health among police officers are on the rise with the numbers of those committing suicide equally increasing.
