Vetting committee rejects Peninah Malonza's appointment as Tourism CS

In a notice of motion, Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah said the Committee approved nomination of 21 other Cabinet Secretary nominees.

National Assembly Committee on Appointments has unanimously rejected the nomination of Peninah Malonza as the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage.

In a notice of motion, Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwah said the Committee chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang'ula had approved the nomination of the other 21 Cabinet Secretary nominees.

 

The Committee also approved the nomination of Justin Muturi as the country's Attorney General and Mercy Wanjau as the Secretary to the Cabinet.

Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, however, said the minority had written a minority report rejecting the nomination of Aisha Jumwa and Mithika Linturi.

President William Ruto had nominated Jumwa to head the Public Service, Gender and Affirmative action docket and Linturi to the Agriculture and Livestock Development ministry.

Malonza still has one hurdle left to know whether she will be in the cabinet or not.

Parliament is expected to debate and vote on the approvals and rejections by the Committee on appointments.

During vetting, Malonza, a former Kitui Deputy Governor disclosed that she was worth Sh300 million.

She said a huge chunk of her wealth was in the form of land in various parts of the country.

"Hon Chair, my financial net worth is Sh300 million. Sh240 million is prime land in Mombasa, Kajiado, Kitui, and Nairobi. I have shares in four saccos with a total of 30 million," she said.
