Former Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa says she professes the Christian faith even though she bears a Muslim name.  

She made the revelation on Tuesday while being vetted by the National Assembly Appointments Committee for the position of Cabinet secretary in the Public Service, Gender and Affirmative Action docket. 

"Yes, I converted to a Christian and Aisha is a Muslim name. I was a Muslim. My name was Aisha Abdallah," she said.

She said despite the conversion, she chose to keep her first Muslim name. 

"I am now a Christian, a strong believer. I am a Muslim by name and a Christian by faith," she said. 

Jumwa told the vetting committee that if approved to handle the ministry, she will will consider all persons for opportunities.

"Affirmative action policy will be initiated to make sure that all Kenyans, irrespective of their gender, tribe and religion are given equal opportunities," she said.

Earlier, she told the committee that she is worth Sh100 million, was married off at a tender age and is proud of her achievements despite having scored a dismal D minus grade in KCSE.

"It's good if you appreciate me and congratulate me," she told MPs.
