JOSEPH KANGOGO/ Tiaty MP William Kamket has threatened to sue Baringo Woman Representative Florence Jematia over alleged slanderous utterance linking him to banditry.

The warning was made through a letter dated October 12, 2022, and copied to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

“She should in the next 48 hours admit liability for defamatory actions after which we shall deliberate on quantum of damages,” Ogola said.

According to Kamket’s lawyer Jematia made the remarks while addressing mourners during the burial of slain GSU officer John Kisoi at Kukui, Baringo North on October 9.

Kisoi was ambushed and killed by armed bandits with other eight officers and three civilians at Napeitom, Turkana East last Saturday.

Ogola further wrote saying the utterance with false content has subjected his client’s chastity to question and caused him public ridicule, odium and opprobrium.

He further said the reckless description of her ‘verbal diarrhea’ was captured in a video which went viral on social media like bush fire.

“Your outburst was out-rightly slanderous, life-threatening and unjust” he said.

He said her pronouncement not just lowered his client’s reputation but destroyed him completely as an internationally renowned journalist, respected legislator and a champion of the marginalised.

The letter further indicated that Jematia was elected for selling fear and hopes that she would fight an imaginary nemesis, instead of selling an agenda to serve her people.

It therefore, demanded her to publish a public apology on the form, fashion, design through which she made the slanderous utterance, within the next 48hours.

“Failure to which we shall proceed to institute legal proceedings against you at you own peril” he said.

However, some Baringo residents have already made public outbursts to react over the legal procedure against Jematia.

Mochongoi MCA Kipruto Kimosop posted in his Facebook page saying ‘The Lioness has smoked him out.’ “Jematia  has our full Support.”

Kimosop said Baringo bandit attack victims shall present more than 100,000 signed affidavits in court if Jematia is apprehended.

“So courts should prepare enough gallery space for the victims we shall ferry to sit and follow the case of our Woman Rep Jematia, once tabled” he said.

He said Jematia was speaking on behalf of residents who for many years have been terrified by the armed bandits.
