Court detains Nyamira teacher accused of defiling class 7 girl

A Keroka court in Nyamira County has allowed police to detain the Deputy teacher of St Andrew's Kaggwa Girls for three more weeks to allow further investigations into defilement charges facing him.

Jared Masese faces among other charges, sexually assaulting a minor and committing an indecent act with a child contrary to section 11(1) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006.

He was further arraigned for touching the private parts of a minor contrary to section 11 (1) of the same act.

He was brought before Senior Resident Magistrate Collins Ombicha at Keroka Law Courts after a night at Manga Police Station.

On Friday, the prosecution asked the court to deny the suspect a bond arguing that if released he would interfere with witnesses.

He was thus detained for more time to await a pretrial hearing that will determine if he would be given a bond.

The court was told that teacher had lured a standard 7 pupil to his office within the school Wednesday evening before he repeatedly defiled her.

They were stumbled upon by one female teacher while on the act who reported the act to the police.

A hospital test conducted on the minor has since turned positive.

The case will be heard on October 27.
