Teachers Service Commission has feted 93 teachers for playing different roles in society.
As the world celebrated World Teachers’ Day Wednesday, Kenya celebrated the role of more than 250,000 teachers in the country, at the Kenya School of Government.
Out of the 14 categories, school principals from Mangu High, Kenya High and Kapsabet Boys appeared in at least seven of them.
They are John Kuria(Mangu), Flora Mulatya(Kenya High) and Sammy Kipchumba (Kapsabet Boys).
The awards were given to different teachers for being the most improved in national exams and emerging the best.
Several teachers were also feted for community service-related activities.
Six teachers were for the most improved schools in the 2021 KCPE exam.
Bungoma MP Catherine Wambilianga who is also Kuppet national secretary in charge of gender presented the national exams awards.
The teachers are Ali Haretha (Hudhile Primary), Riany Joseph (Achego Primary), Adan Mohammed (Mandera D.E.B), Samuel Lokise (Nadwat Primary), Jillo Abdulahi (Algani Girls )and Cheruiyot Joseph (Kitait Primary).
In the KCSE category, Teeka Cecilia (Leek Namunyak Girls), Kerage Bruce (Nyakeore Sec), Maosa Alfred (Mesabakwa Sec), Onyango Jared (Nyalenda Sec) and Kulow Aftin(Elwak Sec) were awarded.
Five school principals received medals and certificates of recognition as the best teachers in 2021.
They are Maiyo Kipchumba (Kapsabet Boys), Kimiti Jane (Othaya Girls), Kuria Willie (Muranga High), Alio Bashir (Gode Primary) and Karanga Catherine of Thika School for the Visually Impaired.
Kenya primary school heads association chairperson Johnson Nzioka was feted for being the most outstanding headteacher.
Several certificates were awarded to teachers for 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
For 2019, Peter Tabichi (Keriko Mixed) and Ademba Erick (Asumbi Girls) received certificates of recognition.
TSC also recognised several teachers for outstanding performance in the 2021 KCSE exams nationally.
They are Maiyo, Mulatya, Kuria John, William Macharia and Inviolata Makhanu.
In KCPE, Mulwa Mwende, John Mulinge, Mugambi Josleen, Sammy Kipkosgei and Emily Jerono were awarded.
In the special needs category, the top school teacher in KCSE awarded was Karanga Chathym from Thika School for the Blind.
Abdi Mohammed from Wajir Special School for the Deaf was feted for the 2021 KCPE category.
The most improved Special Needs Education School nationally was Okwaro Monica for St Kizito for the Hearing Impaired.
Kenya secondary school heads association chairperson Indimuli Kahi awarded teachers from the top-performing private schools.
They are Emrah Sanin (Light Academy), Mochama Bernard (Anestar Boys), Joan Odera (Kianda School), Velma Mudanyi (Mudasa Academy) and Jane Mulinge (Riara Academy).
Another 14 teachers were given different awards for outstanding achievement/ community service.
They are Peter Tabichi for the outstanding teacher commonwealth award 2022.
Joel Shunza was recognised for the anti-tobacco award 2022 which was sponsored by World Health Organisation.
Shunza is a teacher at St Stephen Bujwang.
Gerald Motondi from Chesta TTC was feted for the outstanding scripture Art and George Mwololo for Art and Sculpture initiative.
Esther Njeri Mureke received the Global Volunteer and Award leader.
Virginia Muthoni, Ann Nyaguthii, Eustace Muthui, Isabella Wanjik, David Kipyego, George Mwaniki, and Emmanuel Unda fall under the presidential awards category.
Two teachers were awarded for CBC community service (Shokwei Barsui) and CBC agriculture practicals-growing vegetables(Dominic Orina.
