Narok County Senator Ledama Ole Kina has lashed out at the National Transport and Safety Authority for arresting a driver and two touts for violating traffic rules.

Ledama said the Authority was acting hypocritically in carrying out its mandate.

The Senator suggested that the two touts arrested for hanging on a matatu learnt the vice from Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

"Now tell me my good friends @ntsa_kenya why should you arrest a Matatu Driver and two Conductors for hanging on a moving Matatu yet they learnt from the second in Command Mr Riggy G himself @rigathi ??" he tweeted on Monday.

"Stop your double standards men! Cut them some slack!" he added.

In his tour of Kisumu, Gachagua was filmed hanging by the door of his car as he waved to the crowd that had lined up to welcome him.

The three, who operated a matatu belonging to Ummoiner Sacco, were arrested on Monday after a video showing them hanging on the fast-moving matatu went viral.

"The driver and the two conductors have been arrested. They will be charged accordingly. We urge all road users to remain vigilant and speak out against such behaviour," NTSA said.

They lauded tweeps who had alerted them to the risky road behaviour.

"Road Safety is a shared responsibility and we thank the public for reporting this incident."

NPS also commented on the matter as they affirmed the arrest.

"The NPS condemns the bus crew's reckless and irresponsible conduct that exposed passengers and other road users to danger. Such conduct will not be condoned and stern action will be taken against anyone in contravention," they said.

Ledama's tweet led Kenyans to share photos of Gachagua hanging by the passenger's door of a moving vehicle.

The senator likened both incidents, wondering why the three were arrested yet the DP was left free.
