Five suspects at the weekend were arrested for allegedly stupefying and stealing from a reveller at a popular club along the Eastern Bypass, Kiambu county.

The five, including four women, are alleged to have spiked the drink of their target with a sedative.

Police said the arrest followed two weeks of investigations. Detectives recovered eight mobile phones from the five suspects.

The victim told police he had gone to the club to drink on September 15 at 8pm when he met a woman and they dined together.

Shortly after, the woman invited three women friends to join them as they continued to drink.

"During the drinking spree, the complainant was drugged and lost consciousness only to find himself alone in his car the following day,” police said in a report filed at Ruiru police station under OB No.53/30/9/2022.

The victim told police Sh500,000 was withdrawn from his bank account. He said he lost two mobile phones valued at Sh90,000 and three ATM cards.

Investigations led to the arrest of the five suspects and police said they will be arraigned.

Stupefying to commit a felony carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The probe involved visiting the scene of the incident and a review of CCTV footage.

Police say cases of stupefying have been on the rise and mostly affect revellers.

Meanwhile, 31 suspects at the weekend were arrested in a series of operations targeting bars creating noise pollution and selling shisha in Nairobi.

The swoop was a joint operation by general duty police officers and officials from the National Environment and Management Authority (Nema).

Officials said 20 shisha pots were seized as exhibits from Oyster Bar, Bar Next Door, Kettle Bar and Onex Bar.

There have been complaints of noise pollution from the clubs and other night spots.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai said he has received tens of complaints from residents asking for his intervention over the issue.

"We have involved various parties to address this issue because it is affecting people's freedoms. Churches are also emerging to be a [noice] issue and we will engage the leadership to address it," he said.

Alai urged churches and clubs to be considerate of the residents' freedom.

The new county administration has pledged to address the noise menace, rowdy revellers and crime.
