Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's dance moves were part of the highlights as curtains come down on the 94th Kenya Music Festival on Friday.

The DP was the guest of honour at the festival's gala award event held at the Kisumu Girls High School where winners were awarded with prizes and trophies.

Gachagua, clad in dark glasses, a black trouser and a coloured shirt, joined dancers on the stage as they pelted a dirge much to the excitement of the audience.

It was a Luo dance by Tonga Boys Primary School from Nyanza region.

The DP was all smiles as he tried to match his body movement with the rhythm of the song.

The dancers were donned in colourful traditional regalia and had their bodies painted.

Their synchronized moves were vigorous but the DP did his best to match their energy.

Education CS George Magoha who was in Gachagua's company was largely motionless on the stage after an attempt to match the energy on the stage seemed futile.

The CS nonetheless appeared impressed with the DP's moves and those of the other young dancers.

At one point, Gachagua tried playing the Nyatiti, an eight-stringed instrument from the Luo community.

The DP and Magoha later took photos with learners from the Thika School for the Blind before they exited the stage.

Earlier in the day, the duo and a number of elected leaders were received by Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o upon arrival at the Kisumu International Airport.

This was the first time Gachagua was visiting the lakeside city since his election at the August 9 general election.

The Kenya Music Festival made a comeback after a two-year break occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic.
