Police in Isiolo are investigating how the missing ex-military officer was found dead in a lodging within the town.

Retired chief Inspector Stanley Njiru Kabaci went missing on September 2 before turning up dead. He reportedly checked in at the hotel alone.

Isiolo North OCPD Collins Sainna confirmed the incident saying the former army man left his home in Embu to buy some construction materials but he boarded a Matatu and headed to Isiolo.

"Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances that forced him to leave Embu and find himself in Isiolo," the OCPD said.

Njiru's wife told the media her husband went missing after he left home to go and buy construction materials but he never returned.

A lodging attendant discovered his body lying in bed early morning after she found the room's door unlocked.

The facility management reported the incident to the police and area officers visited the scene.

Sainna said that the deceased's wife positively identified the body.

He said investigations are underway to unravel the mystery behind the death.

"We are talking to the members of the family to understand what had transpired and we can actually give a good report on why he left home and headed up checking in a hotel and eventually found dead,” Sainna said.

The body was moved to Isiolo Teaching and Referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem on Friday.
