Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka has approved Sh200 million for onward payment of pending school fees for needy cases.

Speaking during the secondary school heads meeting (KESSHA) on Thursday, Lusaka said that the school heads should expect money in their school accounts starting next week.

Lusaka added though the program was noble, it required a proper audit to make it better and sustainable.

“This is a very ambitious program hence the need to carry out a proper audit that is not aimed at witch-hunting but making it more transparent and sustainable," he said.

He assured the school heads that the program was there to stay and laughed off those who thought his regime would do away with it.

"I am a career civil servant and you don't scrap a good idea just because it was started by your predecessor," Lusaka said.

The governor at the same time announced that the county government will soon roll out a program that will see the hiring of intern teachers to help struggling schools.

“During my campaigns, I promised to help out already overburdened schools by hiring teachers on an internship basis that we are going to do," Lusaka said.
