Security heightened ahead of swearing in of Kisumu MCAs

Security has been heightened at Kisumu county assembly as swearing-in of MCAs proceeded at the chambers.

Some roads leading to the assembly have been blocked with thorough checkups being done by security officers.

The swearing-in of the 47 MCAs (12 nominated) is being presided over by the assembly clerk Owen Ojuok.

Later, the election of the speaker will be done within the chambers.

Only four people have qualified to vie for the speaker's post.

They include incumbent Elisha Oraro, former Majority Leader Samuel Ongou, James Kounah and lawyer Kenneth Amondi.

Similarly, MCAs eying the position of deputy speaker who has qualified are Central Nyakach MCA Vincent Obuya and Manyatta B ward representative Nereah Okombo.

On Monday night, ODM leader Raila Odinga was in Kisumu where he met MCAs.

However, only half of the MCAs attended the meeting.

It's yet to be established why 23 MCAs missed the party leader meeting.
