Lawyer Miguna Miguna has criticised foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Macharia Kamau on his comments about Kenyans working in Saudi Arabia.

Miguna said lots of women have been mistreated in the Middle East for a long time but the authorities have failed to tame the cases.

He said it is "irresponsible" for the PS to claim that many Kenyans who are mistreated In Saudi Arabia are at fault.

"Hundreds of Kenyan women have been tortured, maimed and murdered in Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries in the past 10 years."

"But the arrogant, callous and inhuman Amb. Kamau still shouts that they are being butchered because they are not submissive," he tweeted.

Kamau said that Kenyan domestic workers who suffer abuse in Saudi Arabia are not submissive.

He noted that working in such countries requires a humility that is not found in Kenyan domestic workers.

Speaking during members of National Assembly induction, the PS said countries like Saudi Arabia have ancient traditions around housework.

"There are places that culturally, the humility needed for domestic workers is not one found in our people. Sometimes our people will not be so subservient and when they go to these countries they are under contract like Saudi Arabia," Kamau said.

"Their traditions around housework are very ancient. So you find that the people who suffer the terrible beatings and abuse are usually of that category."

He went on to say that there are over 100,000 other Kenyans working in the same country but doing different jobs and they have no problem.
