Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli now says the labour movement including the workers union will work with the government of the day following conclusion of the general elections.

Atwoli says the workers union had a tradition of working with the government of the day to improve the welfare of workers in the country.

Atwoli said the recently concluded elections had been most peaceful providing the country with an opportunity to grow economically.

"We had assured the world that the elections would be peaceful and we thank God that we went through smoothly and peaceful," Atwoli said.

He said elections come and go and the most important thing was for Kenyans to remain peaceful and united.

"With the existing peace and unity as workers, we now should go back to work and build our country," Atwoli said.

He spoke in Eldoret during a funeral of Mzee Lazarus Chepkwony who is father to COTU first national vice chairman Reverend Joel Chebii.

The funeral service was held at the Eldu Valley Baptist Church in Eldoret

Atwoli was a key leader in the Azimio movement and had several times sworn that President William Ruto would not win the elections.

Atwoli said the labour movement had since the time of his predecessors kept the policy of working with the government of the day and they would do the same.

At the same time he dismissed as false reports that labour unions would have fresh elections following conclusion of the national elections.

"We already held elections before the general elections and those claiming there would be fresh polls are misguided," Atwoli said.
